Getting started

Five steps from the download to your first turn with Lucicoder — no account to start.

1. Download and install

Get the installer from the download page — no account needed. It lists each platform with a published build, with the file size and a SHA-256 checksum you can compare before you run the installer.

2. Start it: your free month begins

Start Luciai Studio. On its first start — online, once — your free month on this computer begins by itself, and the IDE opens. The status bar shows how many days are left.

Offline on the first start, or the month of this computer already used? The license screen appears: your free month, explained.

3. Keep it: your free account

Before the month ends, choose Create a free account in Luciai Studio (in the license card in the status bar, or on the screen that shows when the month ends). The registration page opens; sign up with your email address and a password, and open the link we email you.

That is all: your key with no time limit arrives as soon as you confirm, and Luciai Studio picks it up by itself within a minute — nothing to paste. It is also shown in your account, for your other computers.

The free plan is the whole IDE and the whole Lucicoder agent, with no time limit and nothing to pay: your key, explained.

4. Choose a model

Lucicoder needs a model to think with. You have three kinds to choose from:

  • A local model through Ollama. Install Ollama, then pull a coding model. Lucicoder finds it automatically, and nothing leaves your computer.
  • Your Claude or ChatGPT subscription. Switch the engine to Claude Code or Codex, and Lucicoder drives the official command-line tool you are signed in to.
  • A cloud provider with your own API key — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini and others.
Terminal
ollama pull qwen2.5-coder:7b

Pick the provider in the header of the Lucicoder panel, and the model in the searchable model picker. Models has the details for each kind.

5. Your first turn with Lucicoder

Start in Ask or Agent mode, so you see each step before it happens. In Agent mode, Lucicoder reads and searches your project freely, and asks before it edits a file or runs a command.

With your project open, ask for something small and concrete, for example:

Message to Lucicoder
The monthly total goes negative when a discount is 100%. Fix it and add a test.

Each edit is shown as a red-and-green diff before it is written. When the turn ends, it is saved as a checkpoint: one click undoes everything that turn changed.

Tip: run /init once per project

/init has Lucicoder study the project and write LUCIAI.md at its root: what the project is, how to build and test it, and the conventions it follows. Lucicoder reads that file on every turn, and you can edit it like any other file.

Where to go next

  • Lucicoder — approval modes, checkpoints, Preview, slash commands, skills and MCP servers.
  • Your license — a free key with no end date, devices, and keys that are not accepted.
  • Features — the debugger, Git with GitHub and GitLab, testing, security audits, deploys and more.
